Brushless DC motors are electrical motors that are powered by a direct current voltage supply which is communicated to the motor electrically rather than via the brushes as is typical in conventional motors. Brushless DC motors have permanent magnets on the rotor and electromagnets on the stator. Having fewer mechanical components than their brushed counterparts means that they have a lower weight, therefore offering a better power to weight and torque to weight ratio. They traditionally last longer and are more efficient than their brushed equivalents.
